Launching our Teen Sleep Tips Video Series – Helping Teens Sleep Better

Nov 10, 2020

Following the successful launch of its Teen Sleep Hub, we are launching a series of online top tips videos tackling the reasons why young people don’t sleep well with practical suggestions on improving sleep.

The video series forms part of our main awareness campaign ‘Teen Sleep Matters, which was launched in October 2020, and also includes the Teen Sleep Hub website and downloadable eBook aimed at teenagers, not parents.

Vicki Dawson, CEO of The Sleep Charity, said: “We’ve had over 3000 visits to the Teen Sleep Hub website and more than 4000 downloads of the eBook since they went live in October – which is an amazing achievement and highlights the need for young people to have access to sleep support.

These short, engaging videos are another opportunity, through a different medium, to emphasise the importance of sleep in particular relation to supporting young people’s mental health.”

The video collection tackles five key areas why young people struggle to sleep: Anxiety; Screen time and Social media; Delayed Sleep Phase Disorder; Lack of Routine and Time (or shortage of). Each video is approximately 60 seconds long and produced in the Teen Sleep branding.

Added Vicki: “COVID-19 is continuing to have repercussions on sleep and with the current lockdown restrictions anxieties can be heightened and feelings of loneliness and isolation are increased which in turn affects how well we sleep. It’s important that young people understand how sleep plays a vital role in maintaining good emotional, mental and physical health and how they can use this knowledge to make changes to their own lifestyle.”

The Teen Sleep Matters campaign has developed over the past few months thanks to funding The Sleep Charity received from the National Lottery Community Fund and Coronavirus Mental Health Response Fund (administered by the charity, Mind, in partnership with the Mental Health Consortia).
