Celebrating National Bed Month with Bed Advice UK

Mar 11, 2024

This month we hear from Bed Advice UK – the consumer arm of the National Bed Federation (NBF) and a long-time partner of the charity.

March marks the onset of National Bed Month, the perfect opportunity to transform not just your bed but, potentially, your entire life. Here at Bed Advice, we’re raising awareness of the crucial role a good bed plays in achieving great sleep and how it contributes to an overall healthy lifestyle.

This year’s theme heralds the humble bed as a miracle product. Why? Because a good, comfortable, and supportive bed does so much more than improve our sleep; it can improve our wellbeing, appearance, performance, and concentration. A bed isn’t just a piece of furniture; it has the power to transform your life! Check out our new campaign video to see for yourself:

When adopting other healthy habits, such as a balanced diet, regular exercise and limited alcohol and caffeine consumption to achieve good sleep, we encourage you to ask yourself if your bed still provides the comfort and support you need to sleep well. Some signs to help you decide if it’s time to say goodbye to your current mattress include:

  • Waking up with stiffness or achiness.
  • Feeling lumps and bumps in your mattress during the night.
  • Hearing creaks and squeaks coming from your bed.
  • Seeing signs of visible wear and tear on your mattress e.g. dipping, sagging, stains etc.
  • Noticing a significant improvement in your sleep after a night away.
  • You’ve had the mattress for more than 7-10 years, or you can’t remember when you bought it.

If you do decide you need a new mattress, visit a reputable retailer and try a few beds before you buy. Comfort is subjective, so take your time and do your research. Just remember to look for the NBF-approved tick. NBF-approved bed brands undergo rigorous independent auditing to ensure they comply with UK regulations on flammability, cleanliness of fillings and genuine product descriptions.

So, what that means for you is you can buy with confidence, knowing that your new bed is safe, clean and everything it claims to be.

We’ll be sharing lots more tips throughout National Bed Month, including buying the right bed for your needs and caring for it to prolong its lifespan.
