New Sleep eBook for Parents As Part of Our Tired of Being Alone Campaign

Mar 13, 2023

We are delighted that this month we are launching our brand new children’s sleep eBook ‘Welcome to the World of Sleep’, in partnership with Dunelm, as part of our ‘Tired of being Alone’ campaign.

The book and the campaign is supporting parents and carers who have a child or children that struggle to get good quality sleep, and reassuring them they are not alone.

When we have children, we expect there to be some disrupted nights. Unfortunately for some families the sleepless nights can continue for months and even years. Parents can feel isolated, lonely and often judged.

A survey of 2,000 parents of primary school children (aged 5-11) by Dunelm found that 82% of UK households are squabbling as a result of their children’s poor sleep habits and that 85% of parents said their own sleep has been affected by their children’s lack of it and over a third claim it has impacted their own mental health.

We want to reassure those who are affected with their children’s sleep difficulties that there is help available, and that things can change. Whether children don’t want to be alone when it comes to bedtime (51%), prefer to co-sleep (39%) or feel anxious (29%), our new eBook will provide some practical support and advice to help.

Three in 10 parents admitted that their personal relationships have suffered at the hands of their children’s sleep patterns and for a fifth (21%) it has affected relationships with their other children too.  When we are sleep deprived, our mood can be lowered and we may feel more irritable and anxious. Dealing with a child who is up during the night can really test your patience and you may feel snappier than usual.  This is all normal.

Making changes to a child’s sleep can seem too difficult when we are exhausted.  We do understand!  The key is to understand why the sleep issues are occurring and identify appropriate strategies to try.

Remember, sleep is essential for both you and your child’s physical, emotional and mental wellbeing.
