Sleep Diary

If you’re having trouble sleeping and can’t understand why, keeping a Sleep Diary can help identify what’s keeping you awake.

Sometimes sleep problems can be linked to everyday habits, such as drinking caffeine late in the day, having an irregular bedtime routine, or not getting enough physical activity.

A sleep diary can help you understand your sleep patterns and identify anything that might be affecting your sleep. By recording information such as when you go to bed, when you wake up, how often you wake during the night and your daily habits, you may begin to spot patterns over time.

We recommend keeping a sleep diary for at least two weeks. The more information you record, the clearer the picture of your sleep will become.

If you decide to speak to your GP or another healthcare professional about your sleep, your diary can provide useful information about your sleep habits and sleep-wake pattern. This can help them understand your concerns and decide on the most appropriate advice or support.
