Sleep Meditation
Sleep meditation is a calming practice that helps relax your mind and body before bed. It often uses breathing, body relaxation or a gentle guided voice. The goal is to quiet your thoughts so sleep comes more naturally.

People with disturbed sleep often struggle to fully relax at night. For many, a busy mind and racing thoughts make it hard to fall asleep, or cause frequent or early waking. That’s why learning how to properly relax and calm the mind is so important.
Meditation is a simple relaxation practice that has been used for many years. It helps prepare the body for sleep by slowing the heart rate and encouraging calm, steady breathing. Research shows that meditation can improve sleep quality, help you fall asleep faster, and stay asleep for longer.
More people are now using meditation and calming music to support better sleep. As well as helping with sleep, these practices can reduce anxiety, ease low mood, and help manage pain.
There are many types of meditation, including breathing exercises and guided visualisations. Try adding one to your bedtime routine to help your mind and body unwind before sleep.
Pick a quiet spot, ideally the bedroom, making sure it is clutter free
Wear loose fitting clothing
Lie flat on your bed, take deep breaths and close your eyes
Spend 10-15 minutes using either guided meditation or your own
Meditation isn’t a cure for insomnia on its own, but it can be safely used alongside other treatments, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I). It works best when combined with good sleep hygiene habits, helping you create a routine and environment that supports a better night’s sleep.
