Children’s Sleep Awareness Month 2026: Let’s ‘Teach Sleep’

Jan 29, 2026

This February we are, once again, celebrating Children’s Sleep Awareness Month – and we’re inviting you to join in!

Every child deserves a good night’s sleep – yet for many families, restful sleep can feel out of reach. Sleep is not a luxury; it’s essential for children’s physical health, emotional wellbeing and ability to learn.

This year’s theme, created in partnership with YouHQ, is “Teach Sleep”, with a special focus on schools and the powerful role they play in shaping lifelong sleep habits. We want to empower teachers, school leaders, pupils and families with practical tools that make sleep education simple, accessible and engaging.

Recent wellbeing data from YouHQ shows just how closely sleep is linked to children’s moods at school. Since the platform launched, sleep has been logged over 51,000 times as a key influence on how pupils feel – making it one of the most significant factors in daily wellbeing. Worryingly, sleep is also the number one contributor to negative mood when it goes wrong. These insights reinforce what we already know: when children sleep better, they cope better, learn better and feel better.

Schools are uniquely placed to support healthy sleep habits. Good sleep improves concentration, emotional regulation, behaviour, attendance and resilience. By taking part in Children’s Sleep Awareness Month, schools can make a lasting difference not just in February, but throughout the year.

To help, we’ve created a free, comprehensive Supporter’s Pack packed with ready-to-use resources for primary and secondary settings. It includes lesson plans, classroom activities, printable posters, social media templates, relaxing soundscapes and guidance for parents and carers. Everything is downloadable and designed to slot easily into busy school life, helping educators start conversations about sleep and inspire small changes that add up to big impact.

It also features a special animation sponsored by our partners, Simba and Dreamspace. It takes children on a fun journey to discover a superpower they have, how amazing it is and what they can do to look after it.

HushAway has also provided free soundscapes for teachers and parents that will help to calm, regulate and support a children in their busy days which is available via a QR code in the pack.

Whether you run a themed assembly, create a sleep display board, challenge pupils to healthier bedtime routines or share advice with families, every action helps raise awareness. Together, we can normalise conversations about sleep and give children the tools they need to rest well.
