Jun 6, 2022

Chair of The Sleep Charity, Tariq Shah, has been awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Honours for philanthropy and services to charity.

The Doncaster-born businessman and philanthropist, who joined the Charity in September 2019, has received the award in recognition of his extensive work in the charity sector.

Shah also serves as director of Vigo Group, a property transformation business.

Incorporating The Sleep Council, The Sleep Charity is the national charity empowering the nation to sleep better.

Tariq said: “I have always believed in grasping opportunities and helping others do the same is a passion of mine. I am totally committed to charitable causes and I also love Doncaster and want to see it take its rightful place in levelling up. The wonderful people I work with all share in this award acknowledgement as without them I just couldn’t achieve what I do.”

Sleep Charity CEO and founder Vicki Beevers said: “Tariq has provided exemplary strategic leadership during his time as Chair at The Sleep Charity.

“We had planned a period of significant growth at the charity to meet the huge demand for sleep support that we face and recognised as an organisation that Tariq was the right person to support us with this challenge. He has incredible vision that we have utilised on our Board.  I personally was delighted when he accepted the post and have enjoyed working with him over the years.

“Together we have developed a strategy that will ensure those suffering sleep issues can access support both nationally and internationally. I warmly congratulate Tariq on this well-deserved honour.”
