We are recruiting for a new Chair of Trustees to join our Board,
The charity has grown considerably over the last 3 years, launching a national helpline, receiving the Queen’s Award and merging with The Sleep Council. The organisation is unique in that it is the only charity offering support for national sleep issues from cradle to grave. The Sleep Charity is at a pivotal moment in its strategic development, and we seek a Chair to lead our ambitious organisation through its next phase.
The Chair will hold the Board and Executive Team to account for the Charity’s mission and vision, providing inclusive leadership to the Board of Trustees, ensuring that each trustee fulfils their duties and responsibilities for the effective governance of the charity.
The Chair will also support the Chief Executive and ensure that the Board functions as a unit and works closely with the entire Executive of the charity to achieve agreed objectives. They will act as an ambassador and the public face of the charity in partnership with the Chief Executive.
Knowledge of the voluntary sector is essential as is the commitment of the Chair to our values and vision. We also seek an individual with the ability to raise awareness of, and gain support, for the organisation with new audiences and benefactors.
This role requires a significant time commitment of at least 4 days per month.
Remuneration: The role of Chair is not accompanied by any financial remuneration, although expenses for travel may be claimed.
Location: Doncaster for quarterly Board meetings. Additionally, the Chair is also expected to have regular meetings with the Chief Executive and also represent the Charity at various events and meetings with key stakeholders.
